The beginner boxing classes are designed to build the fundamentals of boxing defence, attack, and technique, so that as experience is gained by the student these principles will become part of the muscle memory, and therefore automatic.
In a self defence or competition situation, there is no time to think of the correct technique when dealing with an opponent. This is why it is important to have these basic skills sharpened and committed to the bodies natural way of moving. The beginner classes incorporate a number of different drills and exercises so that this is achieved.
During beginner boxing classes, the drills are performed at a light/semi contact level, so that if the occasional punch slips past our defence, no damage will be caused. We also choose to leave sparring out of the beginner classes, and only have sparring on a designated day (Wednesday) so that students can choose not to attend if they are not skilled enough to spar yet.
Beginners only boxing classes are the Boxing Institute are held every Tuesday and Thursday at 5:45 PM, and Saturday 9AM. These classes are catered to the very first timer looking to start learning Boxing, and we start at the very beginning (see timetable for all boxing classes). We also run boxing classes for intermediate students most days, but first timers are also welcome to join in! We will make sure the Coach gets you up to speed so you don’t get left behind in the class.
Our Logan based facility has 350m2, of padded flooring, because we know that especially in the beginning, the participant’s safety must come first! The occasional trip or fall the students may encounter while performing their footwork, will be met with a floor that is a little more forgiving and they won’t be limping the next day!
The most important thing is that students enjoy the lessons! If you aren’t enjoying your training, it’s likely excuses will start being made and sessions will be missed.In order for us to create permanent and positive change in the lives of our students, we need them to be in the gym regularly!
